I'm working on a new site format. Really Blogger makes it easy to select a template and just roll with it.
The one thing I really liked about the old site was the random fish pictures as part of the header. If I can get that to work then the change is on its way. my mac didn't like the spacing I had setup which was really to static to work well across multiple screens/systems.

I was telling my neighbor about the great time we had in the Smokies even though the fishing was a bit slack. She said, "Of course, its about as far away from a full moon as you can get." I hadn't ever heard this but the Farmer's Almanac apparently has. Next year for the Smokey Mountain Fellowship we're hedging our bets and we're going to hit a full moon weekend.

Tennessee River Fish
I've been thinking about picking up blogging again if for no other reason but to just track some of the sites I stumble upon and keep them handy.

This past weekend I met a few old college buddies in Townsend, TN just outside the Great Smokey Mountains for a little R&R. The weather was absolutely perfect but the fish seemed to be spooked by the early warm weather. The folks at the Little River Outfitters were a bit stumped as well. Seemed that everyone was having a tough time.

The 8 of us fished hard on Saturday with enough decent catch for a little appatizer around the campfire.

The weekend did give me an opportunity to try out my new video camera though and I dropped it into iMovie last night and came away with a great little 4 min synopsis of the weekend.

This is more of a real dream. The only complaint I have with Ford besides those listed in the write up about the inability for this to actually go off road is I haven't seen any specs that say the top will come off. If Ford does actually produce a vehicle like this and was to come into some money and be able to buy it I wouldn't really care for 10 years anyways since I'd be too busy waxing it to take it off road. The '77 I owned a while back was in great shape and still had issues whenever I got a little mud on the tires.

My second love, Toyotas. I've got a 4Runner now (our second) and a Camry. They tell you up front what it is for and they dang things run for 300,000 with narry a problem. We bought the 4Runner because it can take it and its not a minivan. The new Cruiser would be sweet in its second year for the same reason the Bronco would be... the public backlash against not being able to remove the top. Freedom my rear end. No soft top, no freedom.

High fuel costs overshadow FedEx profit increase
Looks like the market is responding to the sales innitiatives UPS has been laying out on the table. The last time these two were mentioned together UPS took the hit because Fedex had taken some market share. Stock prices sure seem to be easily swayed. It really should have been easy to see this coming with Fedex moving so much by air and jet fuel is much more costly than gas or diesel. UPS is pulling in close to $12 dollars behind per share now which I see shrinking further once Menlo is fully integrated... only problems on the horizon are labor relations.

Looks like the numbers are rolling in. I don't typically care about the auto industry since I'm a "buy used" type of guy. Cheaps up front though mean I might get something a little sweeter in 2 to 3 years. Right now we're in the market for a 2004 4Runner with 2 wheel drive and a third row. I've seen maybe 10 on cars.com in the past 6 months and only 1 on carmax. All that I have seen have been at least 2 grand over the price I want to pay. I'm hoping to jokers who own them don't wreck them and more show up in the next 6 months as the mileage gets closer to 25,000 or 30,000. Oh yea....

New Jeep! I'm still getting used to the TJ. I don't like the idea of a removable pannel top instead of hard/soft option and I'm betting BestTop doesn't like it too much either. My men's bible study had a group camp out this past weekend which was fantastic. Pretty much the entire hike out we talked about Mercy Children's Clinic... we just happened to have the founder/CEO with us and he let us in on his vision and we ended up talking about a person's perspective on their education and gifts. Really they all talked and I just listened.

Do you view your education as a means to serve the world for Christ or do you view your education as a means to provide a false sense of security based on your bank account balance?

I've been looking a my job and what I want to do next for a few months now... unfortunately I haven't really found anything that sounds good to me. The other problem is I have been looking based on the income. Do I want to make the same or less than I am making now? No. Do I have to do that to fall in line with using my education for service? No. The problem is the mindset. Perhaps the Lord has been holding me in check waiting for me to see my issue. I'm ready to see his will but I'm still struggling with the idea he might want me to make less.

Engadget picked up on the ipod dj mixer... this is seriously late people. Anyone who mixes anything from weddings to frat parties would gladly spend the cash to keep from having to haul boxes of CDs around.
We used to haul boxes of tapes, mini discs and cds around. It was a complete pain.
All you'd need was the mixer, the amp, speakers and lights. sweet.

You can add as many sections as you want setting the search criteria. You can also edit how many stories are shown. If you really need to know what's going on in Entertainment you can change the number of listings from 3 to 30 and if you want to see what Patty Label has been up to lately you can add a whole section and get the latest 10 stories... or just the latest 1 if you happen to be someone who is obsesed with her and check your Google News multiple times a day so you don't miss anything. Of course if she would freaking update her website with current info you wouldn't have to seek info from outside sources divulging the lack of trust in your relationship to the whole world.

The wife was away this weekend on a women's retreat for our church (see 'the body' in the links). It left me with the two kids (3 and 1) for the weekend. It also left a variety of other dads in the same situation. I haven't heard any horror stories which is a testiment to the men of our church. Mostly event packed Saturday's and napping on Sundays. I packed the kids and met no less than 3 dads and their tag-alongs at Chucky Cheese for some pizza and arcade magic Saturday at just before high noon. What a great time! After 10 minutes of trying to decide in which format we were going to spend the small fortune on low grade pizza and a cup of game coins we managed to feed everone and wear out the 60 second rides with no breakdowns or fits. My trio's collective favorite was a wave runner simulator that you actually sat on. It rocked the three of us around and we crashed into the walls and jumps via the little man's driving.
We then survived a trip to Wal-Mart for groceries and rounded out the evening with the Little Mermaid. What a great excuse to watch all the old Disney movies my kids haven't ever even heard of!

New Scientist Breaking News - 'Supercomputer-on-a-chip' microprocessor revealed: "Developed jointly by IBM, Sony and Toshiba, the microprocessor is fundamentally different from the chips that power most computers today. It incorporates eight separate processing cores, or 'synergistic processing elements', which are capable of communicating with one another at high-speed. A standard chip has single, larger processor"

Looks like we are all in for a speed bump sometime. If Toshiba is putting these in High Def TVs the cross applications/products will be soon to follow as everyone tries to keep up... Oh Intel, what shalts thou do?

No real significant drop but I'm guessing they will have to counter punch sometime soon.

Caution: Construction Area
The wife and I are getting ready to start a screened in porch addition on the house. I thought I would track our progress through the event. Last night my guy came by the house to get another look at the house so he can get some drawings together to get the permit done.
My task is to get the underground wiring marked so we don't cut my phone and power lines. Seems easy enough but neither the power company or the phone company have any info on their website that I can find. Emails sent and time passes....

We're looking at a ground break sometime the week of Feb 14. So far the most exciting part is that was the same date my guy told me over 2 months ago. The previous guy kept telling me "a couple of weeks" for over 6 months. He had come highly recommended for his quality but the guy was a complete liar so I was relieved to start fresh with someone new.

Occasionally I'll listen to The Dr. James Dobson on the way home from work. It would really be interesting to know how many of those people were convinced to go and vote because of their constant barrage of the necessity for the Christian to be involved on the gay marriage issue. They constantly give out the number for the House and Senate Switchboard, have phone listings for just about every office in the US that gets paid by the government and push and push for people to call and express their view to the elected.

The evangelical Christian as a whole is a freaking machine under the influence of the star power of the radio hosts and authors of Christian media. I'm not saying I disagree with them or not but what an impact...
